Title
Citizen Science: What We Learned From the Past for the Future
Summary
Citizen science goes back to before the 19th century. Before the professionalization of science, most scientific discoveries were made by individuals who would today be considered citizen scientists. As science became more formalized, citizen participation shifted toward organized projects. With the rise of digital tools, internet access, and mobile technology, citizen science is experiencing a major resurgence. Today, citizen science spans diverse fields, including climate change, medicine and environmental science. Advances in artificial intelligence, machine learning and big data continue to enhance citizen participation, making science more accessible and inclusive.
