- Development, Evaluation, and Future of Grow It!: a Gamified Smartphone App to Promote Overall Mental Wellbeing
- Summary
- The Grow It! app is a digital intervention designed to promote overall mental well-being. It integrates the experience sampling method to help users gain insight into their emotions and includes gamified cognitive behavioural therapy challenges to improve coping skills. As part of a larger consortium (eHealth Junior), Grow It! contributes to the mission of helping children and adolescents with chronic illnesses grow up resilient. Through eHealth solutions like Grow It!, these young individuals can playfully gain insight into their emotions and fatigue, empowering them to take control of their well-being. Grow It's design and development followed a co-creation approach, involving researchers, healthcare professionals, developers, and adolescents to ensure a user-centered and effective tool. Two major studies have been conducted regarding the Grow It! app: a proof-of-concept study among the general population during the COVID-19 pandemic and a randomized controlled trial among adolescents with a chronic illness. We have gained valuable insights from these studies that we are using to further develop the app. With the updated version, we will conduct a nationwide study to evaluate both its effectiveness and cost-effectiveness. This session covers the development process, research findings, and future directions of Grow It!
